Fortunately, Houston is also highly diverse. The city is home to dozens of suburbs and hundreds of neighborhoods, each one offering a unique look, feel and personality.

For that small-town feel: Magnolia or Montgomery

Both located on the far Northwest side of town, Magnolia and Montgomery offer rural country living with easy access to big-city amenities.

Both towns are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, with creeks, lakes, and ponds that are perfect for fishing, boating or just a summer cool-down.

Each community offers great schools, making them ideal for families with little ones.  Both locations offer a wide variety of real estate options boasting everything from affordable starter homes and new construction to custom-built properties and high-end luxury estates.

For tons of amenities: Conroe or The Woodlands

If you’re looking for a community with lots to do, see, and experience, Conroe or The Woodlands may be your answer.

Two of Houston’s largest suburbs, they offer easy access to shopping, dining, arts, culture, and more, in addition to boasting top-notch school districts.

Thanks to the newly built Grand Parkway toll road, getting out and about in both cities is a breeze, though The Woodlands is slightly closer to downtown if a fast commute is of importance.

Favor the outdoors? Conroe may be your best bet as Lake Conroe offers almost year-round fishing, boating, and waterfront fun!

For families: Cypress, Kingwood, or Katy

Cypress, Kingwood, and Katy are known around Houston as “family-friendly” suburbs. All with great schools, lots of recreational opportunities, and safe, largely crime-free streets, they’re the perfect place to put down roots for the long haul.

The best option for your family will likely depend on your ideal location; Cypress is in Northwest Houston, Katy is further west and Kingwood is in the northeast part of the city.

From an amenity standpoint, Kingwood boasts the most shopping and dining options, thanks to its proximity to nearby Humble!

For a great deal: Aldine or Humble

Aldine and Humble, both located slightly Northeast of Houston, offer some of the most affordable real estate in the city.

If your choice comes down to school quality, Humble’s campuses are rated higher, though Aldine has top-notch bilingual programming if that’s a priority for your family.

Both cities offer easy access to shopping, dining, and other amenities, while Aldine is a quicker commute to downtown Houston.

If you’re a regular traveler, airline industry employee, or travel often for business, both communities have a serious perk: The George Bush International Airport is just around the corner.

For easy access: Urban Houston, Northside, or Spring Branch

For historic real estate, focus on Northside or Urban Houston (especially The Heights). If you’re on the hunt for luxury properties or newer real estate, Spring Branch is your home. For affordable new housing: Spring or Tomball

If brand new real estate is on your radar, Spring or Tomball may be a fit. Both communities are home to an influx of new construction, with dozens of builders still developing the area.

Spring’s newer neighborhoods are located along the recently built Grand Parkway toll road, which offers instant access to The Woodlands, Humble, Kingwood, and Katy.

Tomball is slightly more rural, offering more green spaces, trails, and parks. Both Spring and Tomball boast highly rated school districts.
